Dear Members of the International Research Society, dear Friends,
Following the tradition, the International Rough Set Society is wishing to celebrate the day of November 10, 2011, as ROUGH SET DAY. It coincides with the birthday of the founder of Rough Set Theory, late ZDZISLAW PAWLAK, 85 years ago. Many of us had the privilege to know him personally. Others get know him through his books and articles. Celebrating the ROUGH SET DAY, we would like to pay the tribute to Professor ZdzisLaw Pawlak, for both his personality and his oeuvre. We would also like to stress his growing impact on science, acknowledged by a huge number of citations of his book on Rough Sets, shown by ISI Web of Knowledge (4150), which still grows. There are many other proofs that the idea of rough sets has been very fertile and still inspires many researchers and practitioners around the world.
We wish to take this opportunity to thank all colleagues who contributed during the last year to the growth of rough set theory and applications, in particular, to the organizers of RSFDGrC 2011 in Moscow, RST 2011 in Milan, and RSKT 2011 in Banff, as well as to the editors of proceedings, journals and books about rough sets. The next year will give us opportunity to meet at the joint conference on Rough Sets and Current Trends in Computing (RSCTC2012) and Rough Sets and Knowledge Technology (RSKT2012), in short, JRS2012, in Chengdu, China, 17-20 August, 2012, and at a number of other events related to Rough Sets.
With all good wishes on the ROUGH SET DAY,
Roman Slowinski and Dominik Slezak
